Living on the edge of the Nerang Forest, we are privileged to hear and see lots of varieties of wildlife – birds such as kookaburras, lorikeets, galahs, pulvars, to name just a few. My favorite has always been the magpie. They are known to swoop in breeding season, but they say that if they know you, they won’t swoop. Well, I get feathered visitors most mornings, and only once has a magpie swooped me!
Here’s a pic of one, and a haiku I wrote about the inquisitive and intelligent Magpie.
Magpie
Two feathered magpies
Sitting, singing, on a fence
Warbling a new day.

Ah, the birds of Australia – loved waking to their sounds when I visit from the UK!
